Is it me or does it seem like there’s something in the water these days? At any given moment, there are at least three or four people I know that are pregnant. What an exciting time. Having just been there myself, there is only one thing I wish I’d done differently. It was the way I broke the news to my husband.

I guess I didn’t think it was going to happen so quickly so I just blurted it out as soon as those two pink lines showed up. I should have put a little more thought into it. So, if you are one of those people who are pregnant or plan to get pregnant, just stop for a minute and think. There are so few things in life that are a surprise, you need to make it fun. Especially if you plan to find out the sex of the baby like me, take a deep breath and think of a way to share the news.

The first time my husband told a friend, he thought I had probably told his wife, the wife had told his friend and the “news” was old news. So, our friend was disappointed to hear about it in passing as if we told him what we’d had for breakfast. After that, my husband was completely on board and helped come up with some fun ways to tell everyone from wearing. There are so many ways to announce the news to your friends but I chose to wear a tshirt to Thanksgiving last year that said “Practice Makes Pregnant” and wait to see how long it took someone to actually read my shirt. Of course the cousin who had just had a baby looked me up and down and said, “What’s up with the shirt? Is that for real?” All the commotion made grandparents, aunts and uncles come running to find out what was going on. It was so much fun.

Next time it’s going to be fun from the very beginning and the news will most likely come from a tiny messenger like we helped our friends do with these shirts. We thought it would be fun for the whole family to don shirts this time. Make one for Dad or one for Big Brother or Sister. It will get everyone excited and then of course they can help you tell everyone else by wearing their shirts. We’ll be coming up with some fun new designs for Big Cousin, Big Sister, First Grandbaby, etc. Let us know if you have something special to share.
